window series
By Aris Theotokatos
these images are part of a larger series of photographs taken from my window. i wasn't thinking of nature when i took them, only about composition, color, and how forms related to one another. that process keeps me grounded and present. being present is the most natural thing one can do. so while i wasn't thinking of nature, i was being it.
the process of making images from my window kept me anchored, and the resulting images became windows of their own. i see them and meditate on the scope of nature. in my day-to-day it's easy to externalize nature, to define it as plants, trees, water, mountains, even the sun and moon. i forget that nature is not only beyond me, beyond our planet, it is also within me. it's something i cannot be separated from.
an ode to nature is an ode to myself, an ode to every space i've occupied/has occupied me, an ode to everything and everyone who has ever been a home to me. it's an ode to everything.
