BLUE

By Samantha Jo

I created a video of my trip with my father recently. It was a trip to understand not only him but the patterns I may share with him. I did not grow up with my father by my side. So this was our first and last trip to his hometown together after 25 years. He is from Florida; so we drove to St. Augustine to Sanford to West Palm Beach to Pompano Beach.

During the trip I met my fathers alter ego, BLUE. Everywhere we went all I heard was "blue this" or "blue that". I never heard this nickname before the trip. All the people know BLUE as this neighborhood celebrity almost; a great guy to know. To me, he's a broken man that needs mental health care and authentic love from two people who are no longer with us, his parents.

This journey was a challenge, but I needed it. Moving forward, I'm no longer questioning my shadow and the parts of me that's confusing. Being around my father made me want to show myself grace, love, and compassion. Forgiving the inner child is a huge step for anyone and awareness is key!

I'm grateful for this reminder to be kind to myself & love from afar.
