This tabloid newspaper, titled Seeking Darkness, is printed in full color on 80gsm bright white recycled paper, measuring in at 289 mm by 380 mm.

I developed digital 2D illustrations to complement articles about light pollution, space news, space art, and how individuals can take action to reverse light pollution and bring back dark nights in their own communities.

The publication is made up of three sections: Artificial Light, Looking Up, and Media, featured in orange, purple, and blue, respectively.

Ever the astronomy nerd, I’ve become an official dark sky advocate through the leading global non-profit fighting to bring back the stars. But light pollution does more than hide the universe; it has disastrous environmental and human health consequences.

It is my goal to spark change by sharing light pollution research through my designs.

My newspaper is a window into the dark. It is vital that contemporary humans relearn to appreciate darkness in all its forms.

Darkness has been and always will be needed.

MEET MEREDITH CHADWICK

I’m Meredith Chadwick, an artist and designer based in Paris, France. Originally from the east coast of the US, I spent my senior year of high school in rural Thailand on a cultural immersion program. With my comfort zone nowhere in sight, my eyes were opened to new and exciting ways of life. Soon after, I found my way to Paris where I am currently finishing my BFA in Communication Design. As you may have guessed, I love to travel.

I am constantly being inspired by the people and world cultures I have had the privilege of visiting. As an artist, it is my goal to share the beauty I see on my adventures with the world. To do this, I explore everything from photography and film to web design and animation. I hope my work relays a sense of curiosity and wonder.
