hair we go

“Hair We Go” is a visual story about the unity of coloured women through hair. It shares animportant aspect of beauty, embedded in black culture. The series is used to highlight the versatility of coloured women’s hair, as it is genetically amongst the most diverse hair textures.

The concept is rooted in black culture because of the evaluation of black hair from ancestral traditions to the present day. The series was shot in the open beautiful fields of Maurecourt, France. The location is peaceful and organic, it aligns with the desires to be liberated and free from social conformities.

Hair We Go shows the special bond that women have with the way in which they style their hair and how it affects their appearance and the impact it has on their confidence. It has a harmonious blend of black women from different ethnic backgrounds and although they don’t necessarily bear the same features, they are still deeply connected through history. The women are shot intimately in lightweight garments to add to the nostalgic tone of the story. Rowe describes this series as a beautiful chapter out of spring.
