Signs from Beyond
by Nia Jones
It’s the simplest things in life that can bring an invigorating joy, like coloring for example. Creating art has been one of my favorite creative activities to do daily that brings me peace of mind.
This weekend was my moms Bearthday (I spell it that way because it’s the day that she was brought to the Earth), and we decided to have a date in the park.
We went to a park that I grew up going to as a child. We walked through a trail and found a spot near the water on a flat rock. It was near a mini waterfall and the vibrations felt liberating.
We set up a blanket with my coloring book, 60 colorful markers, immuniTEA (my moms very own immune booster tea), some weed (my mom is cool like that), and a speaker with India Arie plalying. It was a beautiful afternoon spent connecting with our ancestors.
We received several signs of them throughout the experience. For example, we were talking about my Aunt Chippe who got her Ph.D. from University of Maryland, College Park. She unfortunately passed away when I was in middle school and I miss her so very much. However, I know she’s always with me and protecting me. As we were talking about her, a little boy with a UMD shirt appeared and that was our confirmation.
Overall, it was a life-altering experience because of all of the interconnected elements. I felt like I was one with nature, exactly where I was suppose to be. Surrounded by the green trees, blue water, gray rocks and brown Earth was mesmerizing. I can’t wait to do this again because I think I may have just found my place of ultimate peace. I felt like I could harness any creative idea in that setting.
That’s what life is all about after all, turning inward to find your purpose, your meaning.
I’m grateful for this experience because it not only made me closer to my mom, but closer to my dreams as well. With all the ancestors protecting us along our journey.
Ashe.
