Growing in the Grace of Green

By Simon Kellogg

Prelude | As the sun radiates energy, it is important to feed that energy to our spirit:

I look to the sun’s rays for power
as I grow in grace

Bathe me, soak me in the wind, so that I
learn the value of water on my face

Sisters of many different beautiful
colors and men of strong roots

 Working together with our creator,
 to bring forth and produce

If weeds should infiltrate our grounds
and our sisters be cut loose

Even the meekest clover can look
to heaven with small faith and
bring forth abundant fruit

Once we learn to care for the highest
 trees and the smallest leaves

Then we will know the power of love
through growing in the grace of the green.

Simon wrote this poem in the year 2015 looking out of a window from the US Embassy of Senegal. A year later it went on to be published in his book of poetry "Letters to Mankind"
