Born Again

By Anh Savies

She was torn and damaged

And we all know, anything that’s been damaged will never be the same

She’s been in this pain for so long - she didn’t know how to live without it

Her fear of pain made her build a wall

She hammered away emotion

Poor girl couldn’t feel a thing.

She went through life senseless, hiding behind her well built wall.

From the good to the bad, her awareness was limited;

it was as if she was learning French again.

All she had left was memories of what emotion once felt like

She knew no one could force her to let her walls down

Only she had the power to do that

and luckily

she wanted to.

Brick by brick

Her emotions were coming back slowly.

Her first step, she teetered like a child learning to walk.

It hurts, it’s new, it hasn’t healed all the way,

but she was grateful the feelings were even back

She was proud of herself for trying

saying ‘she would never take them for granted again’

She had to relearn what it was like to feel again

It was scary to try and felt so foreign…

It was like she was learning French again - weird but exciting

but she grew more into it.

As she dismantled her walls

she became stronger.

She reconstructed what love looked like in heart

The walls were no longer.

Healing hurts.

It’s numb,

then it itches,

then you’re different from who you once were

It took her entire being to work together to achieve healing

The Mind supported the Body, Body leaned on the Mind & her Spirit kept them all going.
