POP Artist Highlight
“My name is Jawanza Harris, also known as King Wanza, but since we are friends you can call me Wanza.”
Where are you from?
“I am from Los Angeles, CA. ‘South Central’ to be exact. Though I feel like I’m from the Mid West as well. I spent most of my summers and holidays growing up in Kansas City, Kansas the 913.”
What inspires you?
“It all depends on the season. Lately, I have been inspired by butterflies. How they completely Come Different. Once a caterpillar, now a whole new creation. Also a good run to the thriftstore, even if I don’t buy something. I often times think about the stories behind the clothes. I ask myself, “Who wore this piece that I am about to buy and to where did they wear it? What allowed them to depart from it?” I sometimes even name the person. My friends and family BIG inspire me. BUT God is my number one inspiration. It’s Jesus for me, friend. Usually my songs or projects start off as a word I received from a scripture I read, a sermon I heard, or just something that has been pressed upon my heart.”
What's the purpose of your project/EP?
“My latest project, “Don’t Worry” I pray is a sound track to coach someone through a state of depression or anxiety. That’s my hope! My purpose was to have some bops along with substance.”
What is your favorite thing about doing what you do?
“My favorite part of creating music, is when I am in discovery. Finding the vibe and the focus. Taking this mystery of a melody and finding words that fit divinely. If I stop there, I am lying! The creation of the album art. Makes me happy most!”
What are you looking forward to now?
“I will be shooting some music videos this summer for the project “Don’t Worry” Also I just started my online store selling art and art by king wanza”
